Two million tons of ore were mined here in the course of three centuries. Knowledgeable guides will take you through part of the remaining labyrinth of underground galleries, and you will be most impressed to see the enormous achievements of the workers who tunnelled through the mountain.
The unique "St Barbara meal"
After the guided tour of the mines, lunch will be served in the Café des Mines, which has a big fireplace and is full of old photographs. The lunch is also in memory of the asphalt miners and dedicated to St Barbara, their patron saint - the legendary dish of ham cooked in hot asphalt. A worldwide one-off!
The green fairy: facts, myths, and tasting
The spirit of the green fairy blows through the Val-de-Travers. At the Maison de l'Absinthe in the historical town of Môtiers you can discover the secrets of the days of black market distilleries, learn how the schnapps is made from wormwood, aniseed, fennel and various other herbs, and then try the fabled drink for yourself.
