Your journey to the centre of the earth
Discover a beautiful region in the far west of Switzerland and immerse yourself in its exciting history. Did you know that the natural asphalt from Val-de-Travers was exported all over the world? Over three centuries, the asphalt miners extracted a total of two million tonnes of ore. Under expert guidance, you will explore part of the still preserved underground labyrinth of galleries. You will be deeply impressed by the titanic work of the miners.
The unique menu "Saint Barbara"
After the mine tour you will also spend lunchtime in the memory of the asphalt miners. In the "Café des Mines", a room with a large fireplace and full of old photographs, you will be served the legendary menu "Saint Barbara" (the patron saint of the miners): ham cooked in hot asphalt. Unique in the world!
The Green Fairy: facts, myths and tasting
The spirit of the Green Fairy blows through the whole Val-de-Travers. In the Absinthe House in the historic village of Môtiers, you will discover the secrets of the times of the black distillery. You will learn how the schnapps was distilled from wormwood, aniseed, fennel and various other herbs and you will then be able to taste the legendary drink yourself.
