How can animals be photographed optimally with the smartphone? The photographer will accompany you to Bern Zoo and give you the best tips and tricks.

Animal photography in theory and practice

How do you achieve the best possible picture quality when taking photos with your smartphone? How do you shoot through glass and through fences? How do you compose a photo with an animal as subject? What are the tricks and tips for editing the pictures? At the photography workshop at Bern Zoo you will receive theoretical and practical answers to these and other questions. You will learn to walk through the zoo with a new perspective, discover the best spots and learn what to look for in terms of light.

Procedure of the workshop

The workshop starts in the house of the puffins. Here you will meet the photographer, receive a short theoretical introduction and discover various gadgets. With the whole group you will then walk through the facility and try out what you have learned in the theoretical part. The photographer is always close by, commenting on your pictures and giving tips for post-processing. At the end of the workshop you send the leader some of your photos. This will result in a reminder card for all participants.

Basic equipment and accessories

You will need to bring your own smartphone to participate in the workshop. During the workshop it is not possible to go into every single device and its special functions, but the basic functions are usually the same or can be enhanced with apps. The workshop leader will also provide you with special accessories that can be used to create fun effects, such as a mini-tele lens, a fisheye, a wide-angle lens and a macro lens.

Career and focus of the photographer

Her workshop leader has been working as a freelance photographer in Bern since 2011. Prior to that she studied and taught photography in London and Sydney for several years and worked as an assistant to important photographers. In her own work in the studio and on the road she likes to create images that appeal to and inspire the viewer in a positive way.
