Why is honey so valuable?
Have you always wanted to know how a bee spends its life day in, day out? Do you want to know how honey is produced and what makes this natural product so precious? These and many other questions will be answered in the beekeeping workshop. You will be welcomed on site by a beekeeper. The beekeeper looks after bee colonies at various locations in the canton of Aargau and produces Badner city honey, Lenzburg city honey, blossom honey as well as forest honey. The beekeeper is responsible for the bees in Zurich and produces city honey with them.
A visit to the bee colony
During your visit to the apiary, you will wear a protective suit so that you can experience the busy goings-on at first hand. Together with the beekeeper, you will look for the queen in the colony, observe the workers, discover drones and, with a bit of luck, even watch young bees hatch. In case of bad weather, the workshop takes place indoors, with lots of interesting information and stories about the life of bees.
Optional: spin honey
In addition, you can attend a course in honey extraction. You harvest the combs of the colony you have visited, bring them into the honey room and cover them by hand. Now the honey is centrifuged in a large centrifugal spinner, passed through a fine sieve and filled into jars. At the end of the course you will be served an unspeakably fine z'Nüni or z'Vieri with fresh Zopf and still warm honey. Of course you can also buy the honey on site.
