Exploring the Rocks
Have you heard of the sandstone cave near Burgdorf? This cave was formed by the quarrying of sandstone needed for the construction of Burgdorf’s town church and other historic buildings. The impressive cave still exists today and can be toured with a cave guide. The tour is easy and can be done mostly while standing upright.
Equipment for the cave tour
The temperature inside the cave is about 8 degrees Celsius in both summer and winter. So don't forget to bring a warm jacket. You can explore the cave in regular footwear. Closed-toe shoes that provide good support are recommended. If possible, you should also bring a helmet and a headlamp. Both can also be rented on site.
Duration and Supporting Program
A certified mountain and cave guide will accompany you on your walk through the sandstone cave. He’ll also have plenty to share about its history. The tour lasts about an hour. Combine the excursion with a lovely hike over the Flüeh rock formation near Burgdorf. Between activities, you can grab a bite to eat at a restaurant not far from the cave. We’d be happy to put together a relaxing itinerary for you.
