Seafaring with fascinating highlights
Experience a little-known, beautiful lake up close: the Schiffenen reservoir near Fribourg. The upper part is wild and romantic with enchanting sandstone walls and islands. From the railway bridge onwards, it opens out and is flanked by high rock faces. You can discover all this on a leisurely tour in a canoe. Another highlight along the way is the cave hermitage located above the water, a five-minute walk from the shore. The hermitage was built around 1609 by two hermits. It consists of over 20 rooms carved in sandstone on two floors and houses a chapel, a bell tower and a secluded garden.
Equipment, catering and possible tours
Secured with life jackets and accompanied by certified guides, you will travel in 2-person canoes or tip-proof large canoes of 10 people each. The start and end points are easily accessible by public transport. As a culinary intermezzo we offer you an aperitif, a barbecue, a cold platter or a warm menu. You can book the event as a short tour, round trip or day program.
Short tour from Fribourg to Pensier
You will be welcomed at Fribourg. After putting on the safety vests and first paddling instructions, you can start:
- Canoe trip to Räsch (1 hour)
- Visit the cave hermitage (½ hour)
- Continue with the canoes to Pensier (½ hour)
Small round trip from Schiffenen
This tour starts and ends in Schiffenen. After the welcome, changing and the first paddling instructions, you're off:
Leisurely day trip from Fribourg to Schiffenen
This is how your programme will look like after the welcome, changing and first paddling instructions:
- Canoeing to Räsch (1 h)
- Visiting the cave hermitage (½ h)
- Continuing with the canoes to Pensier (½ h)
- Refreshments on the meadow (1½-2 h).)
- Continue paddling towards Schiffenen (1 hr.)
- Break at Bad Bonn with views of the 3 castles and continue (1 hr.)
- Arrive at Schiffenen Bay, change clothes (½ hr.)
