The game Kubb at your event
"Kubb", also known as "Viking chess", is played with wooden blocks (kubbs) that are placed on the lawn, a meadow or a solid surface (outdoor or indoor). The teams of up to six people now try to knock down the "kubbs" of the other party with throwing sticks. The game is ideal for teams that want to combine skill and fun.
This is how the team game works
After marking out the playing field area of 8 x 5 metres with the boundary timbers, each team places its five base cubbs on its base line, the "king" is placed in the middle of the field. Then a draw is made to see which team can start and off they go. The teams now try to knock down first the opposing field cubbs and then the base cubbs with six throwing sticks. The fallen cubes are thrown back by the opposing team into the field of the team that just threw them, and then they are put back into place by the opposing team. When a team has knocked down all the opposing field and base kubbs, it may aim at the king from the baseline. The first team to knock down the opponent's king wins the game. In the tournament we play the "Kubb-long version". The award ceremony at the end is a matter of honour.
