Tremola and Leventina
With the Postbus you travel up to the Gotthard Pass and take your bike and helmet there. The tour starts at the top of the pass, the pass with high economic and cultural significance in the history of Switzerland and Europe.
By bike, you will then cycle down the cobbled, historical Tremola. The old pass road, built between 1828 and 1832 by the Ticino engineer Francesco Meschini, is a unique route with its 24 hairpin bends.
Leventina and dinner at the Grotto (optional)
From Airolo the tour follows the cycle path n. 3 through the sunny Leventina. This valley has always been a transit corridor to the south. The stone houses in the villages and the chestnut woods announce the Ticino.
After the beautiful tour through the Leventina, you return to Giornico by bike and helmet. In Giornico you must visit the famous Romanesque church of San Nicolao. And before you take the post bus to the nearest railway station, you can enjoy a fine risotto in a cosy and typical grotto.
